Mobility Print - Cloud Print Update
Contents
You may have seen the following message after logging into the Mobility Print Admin UI:
“Google will retire Cloud IoT Core in August 2023, that may cause printing to stop for Cloud Print users. This article explains how to keep your printing working.”.
If so, read on for more information:
Google Cloud IoT Core is a fully-managed service that allows customers to connect to millions of globally dispersed devices quickly and securely.
PaperCut’s Mobility Print uses Cloud IoT Core technology to enable users to print remotely outside of their network from their Windows, Chromebook, and Mac devices.
Google Cloud IoT Core is scheduled to retire on 16 August 2023. Mobility Print will be updated to v1.0.3553 in July with a replacement for Cloud IoT Core so that users can continue to print remotely.
With this update, if you have Cloud Print enabled, you might need to:
- Update firewall outbound rules to allow Mobility Print to communicate with the new cloud notification replacement service. Replace
mqtt.googleapis.com
(refer to the Cloud Print firewall rules section in the manual) withmqtt.notifications.cloud.papercut.com
. - Check that auto-updates are enabled on your server. Refer to the Mobility Print advanced configuration page and ensure your server can reach the following endpoints:
- [Windows]
https://mobility-print.papercut.com/client-version/v1/check-update/pc/win
- [Mac]
https://mobility-print.papercut.com/client-version/v1/check-update/pc/macos
- [Linux]
https://mobility-print.papercut.com/client-version/v1/check-update/pc/linux
- [Windows]
If your organization doesn’t allow auto-updates, you’ll need to manually update your server by running the Mobility Print installer over the top at some time between v1.0.3553 and before the 16 August. You can still run it after 16 August but your printing might not work in the meantime. Download the latest Mobility Print server installer here.
There are no Mobility Print client updates required for this change to take effect.
