Configure printing from mobile phones and tablets

This page applies to:

🔎 Admin console: Easy Print & Scan

📄 For a description of mobile and tablet printing, head over to About mobile and tablet printing .

Android and Chrome OS devices

There’s nothing to configure! As soon as a user’s device is set up to use PaperCut Hive or PaperCut pocket, printing works “out of the box”!

iOS devices - prepare your network

Mobile printing from iOS printing needs some network preparation to allow your users’ iOS devices to submit print jobs into your network.

After you’ve prepared your network, users need to download a “profile” onto their device for printing to work . This profile contains information about how to submit print jobs into your network.

  1. Log in to your PaperCut Hive or PaperCut Pocket admin console.
  2. Go to Easy Print & Scan > Mobile & Tablet Printing.
The Mobile & Tablet Printing panel is displayed. You’ll notice a green tick next to Chrome OS and Android - this means that users with these devices are already able to print.

  3. You’ll see two options listed on this screen. Read the descriptions below and click the link for the option you want to use.
    • Option 1: Enable the cloud node - Choose this option if you are happy for your print jobs to leave your network. The added bonus of this option is that your users are able to submit print jobs from outside your network (that is, whilst travelling, at customer sites, etc.).
    • Option 2: Make sure you have a Super Node - Choose this option if print job security is of high concern. This option ensures that your print jobs remain locally onsite; they never leave your local environment. All printing must be conducted onsite.

Option 1: Enable the Cloud Node

This option allows your iOS users to submit print jobs into your network via the cloud.

  1. In the admin console, go to Edge Mesh. The Edge Mesh page is displayed
On the right of the page you’ll see the Cloud Node section.
  2. Click the Add to Mesh toggle to on (green). An information popup is displayed.
  3. Read the information in the popup window. It includes important details, for example, you are also turning on the ability for users to print remotely.
  4. If you agree with the conditions for enabling this feature, click Enable.

And that is it! Your environment is now ready for your iOS users to print.

Option 2: Make sure you have a super node

A super node is a computer or computers in your network that you specify to become a priority machine for hosting print jobs. These computers must be configured with a static IP address because the IP address is used in the profile downloaded on each user’s iOS device.

  1. Identify a suitable computer or computers that you want to promote to be a super node.

  2. Configure the selected computer(s) with Static IP addresses on your network. Depending on your network, this is usually by manually assigning an IP address or placing a DHCP reservation on your DHCP server.

  3. In the admin console, click Edge Mesh. The Edge Mesh page is displayed.

  4. Scroll down the page until you see all your current computers in your Edge Mesh network.

  5. Locate the computer(s) you want to promote to be a super node.

  6. Click the three dot menu to the right of the computer details, then click Promote. An information popup is displayed. Ensure you understand the requirements for the super node before you continue.

  7. Click Promote.  A small green SUPER flag is added under the computer name and the computer is added to the Super Nodes section above.

  8. Repeat steps 5 - 7 for the remaining computers you want to promote to be super nodes.

  9. Go to Easy Print and Scan > Mobile and Tablet Printing.

  10. Scroll to Option 2: Make sure you have a super node and check that step 1 shows that you have active super nodes.

  11. In step 2, click I have done that.

  12. Click Save changes. iOS printing will now have a green tick
