Do I need to install anything on my user devices?
Nothing beyond the standard PaperCut Hive or Pocket user client. We’ve added all new capabilities to the existing client
application, so there’s nothing new to install before adding manufacturer drivers to your Find-Me queues. Existing
clients will automatically update to support the new functionality.
Does the system with the queue to copy need to remain online / active / a Hive client once the driver setup and import process are complete?
No. Once your driver is imported from the client computer into the PaperCut Cloud, it lives there. That system can be
turned off or the PaperCut client software can even be uninstalled; the imported driver and Find-Me print queue are
unaffected.
What's the difference between a Find-Me print queue created by the admin and the default PaperCut Printer print queue?
The only difference is that you can’t delete the default PaperCut Printer print queue. You can rename it and add or
change the Windows or macOS drivers, exactly as you can with new manually created Find-Me queues.
What print settings and finishing options are supported?
Any print hardware capability supported by the relevant manufacturer driver is seamlessly supported in PaperCut Hive and
Pocket at the client OS level.
Can I change the default print options for my users on the PaperCut Printer?
Absolutely! If you would prefer your users to have B&W selected by default, or double-sided, simply setup a workstation with the defaults that you want and then update the driver on the PaperCut Printer using that pre-configured workstation as a reference for the driver.
How are drivers deployed? Does each client pull the whole driver package down from the cloud over the internet, or are drivers shared between clients in the Edge Mesh?
Each client downloads the driver package directly from the PaperCut Cloud. In future, transfers may be between edge
nodes.
What happens if a user tries to release a print job submitted to a Find-Me queue with a Brand X driver on a Brand Y printer?
If both printers use a compatible printer language (for example, PCL), the job might still print, but with a high risk
of errors. Please name print queues explicitly to help users avoid this risk.
Why can't I see print job thumbnails for print jobs using manufacturer drivers?
PaperCut Pocket and Hive currently do not support thumbnail rendering for print jobs generated using manufacturer drivers. Thumbnails are supported when using the default PaperCut driver.
We expect to make thumbnail support available for a wider variety of drivers in the future.
Can I deploy a queue / driver only to a specific user or group?
No. All Find-Me queues in PaperCut Hive or Pocket are automatically deployed to all users in the org with an operating
system matching the configured driver (Windows or macOS).
Does this feature support both Type 3 and Type 4 print drivers?
Short answer: yes. Long answer: we recommend using Type 3 drivers for maximum reliability. We strongly recommend you consult your print hardware partner to determine the best driver for your specific hardware and business needs.
Does PaperCut Hive & Pocket support Arm64 drivers?
- The default PaperCut Global PS driver supports Arm64 and can be installed on Arm64 devices
- The PaperCut Hive & Pocket cloner (through Queues & Drivers) and queue installer can run on Arm64 devices
- PaperCut Hive & Pocket can clone queues installed on Arm64 devices and deploy to arm64 devices
