A data center location is where PaperCut Software hosts an organization’s PaperCut Hive or Pocket application and data.

Selecting an organization’s data center location

The person who selects the data center location and when they select it differs depending on the PaperCut Software product being set up. 

PaperCut Hive - Set up by the reseller, who selects the data center location when they provision the account for an organization.

PaperCut Pocket - Set up by the user, who selects the data center location when they sign up for their free trial.

Changing the data center location

After setup, the only way to change an organization’s data center location is to set up a new account for the organization.

A summary of the terms and conditions

As part of signing up to use PaperCut Hive or Pocket, your organization agreed that data may be stored by third-party data hosting services such as Google Cloud Services, and that the data might be located in different geographic regions around the world. 

Your organization selected a particular geographic region for the primary processing and/or storage of your data, knowing that, in some cases, you or your users might take certain actions or enable functionality that may result in data being processed outside of the chosen region. The actions and functionality include (but are not limited to) if you:

  • transmit data to our global support team using our support platform
  • enable functionality that results in the use of cloud-based processing services (like scan-to-cloud or cloud OCR), which may take place in a particular region 
  • select an Add-on that connects your data to a third party, or that processes data in a particular region.

Data collected in PaperCut Hive and Pocket

  • Organization print settings, for example:
    • Access control
    • Secure Print Release
    • Printer Errors
    • Watermarking 
    • Digital Signature
    • Document thumbnail (1st page by default, can be turned off )
    • Promoted 2-sided
    • Promote Black & White
    • Prevent abnormal printing job (Safety Net)
    • Auto 2-sided
    • Auto Black & White
  • Administrator’s first name, last name, and email.
  • End-user’s first name, last name, and email.
  • Organization name.
  • Organization scan settings, for example:
    • Scan to email
    • Scan to Cloud Providers
  • Device information (IP address, make, model).
  • Organization subnet.
  • Print, scan, and copy job information.

Services and components that PaperCut Hive and Pocket use that are regionalized 

  • Scan to Cloud providers (Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, Box, Evernote, SharePoint), email and OCR.
  • PaperCut Multiverse.

Services and components that PaperCut Hive and Pocket use that are NOT regionalized

  • FastSpring: Payment processing service for PaperCut Pocket customers.
  • Heap Analytics: Analytics platform used in PaperCut Pocket/Hive Administrator Web Console (hosted in Europe).
  • Sentry: Application errors monitoring for PaperCut Pocket mobile application.
  • AWS IoT Core: Notification system for the Edge Mesh (hosted in US).
  • ClearBlade: Notification system for the Edge Mesh (hosted in the US).
  • PaperCut Grows data provider (hosted in the US).
  • Beamer: Release notes and product feedback in PaperCut Hive and Pocket  administrator console.
  • SendGrid: Email sending platform (mail servers across the globe, data hosted in US).
  • Google Identity Platform - Authentication (hosted in the US).
